Raise a glass of wine and celebrate DC Wine Week the week of October 11 through the 18. The annual event is according to their official site, “A week-long celebration dedicated to enjoying wine, wine education and an opportunity to support the area’s growing number of local wineries, wine shops, wine bars, restaurants and merchants. Expect hosted themed events throughout the week, paired menus and special offers from participating bars and restaurants.” The city comes together to welcome guests and give the locals one more reason to celebrate the season of harvest and enjoy a shared bottle of local wines.
DC Wine Week is celebrating its fourth year and it has grown exponentially since it first began. Those participating will have the opportunity to learn more about local wineries, sample paired menus highlighting local wines by downtown Washington, DC restaurants, and enjoy special shopping events built around the event. It is a special way to learn more about and support local businesses, wineries, restaurants, hotels, and wine bars in the downtown area.
For those that are planning a wedding in the DC area it would be a great opportunity to get introduced to local wines to consider for your wedding rehearsal or reception dinner. It would make a great gift idea for your attendants, parents, and out of town guests to send them home with a bottle of wine from a DC winery to enjoy on their own and remember your special day. To find out more about wines before DC Wine Week consider attending an event at the non-profit Washington Wine Academy where they give hands on education courses about wine and beer highlighting local wineries and local breweries.
