Christmas season is upon us. The Malls are full and store parking lots are bursting! People struggle with bags and packages as they make their way to the cars. Adults look exhausted but the children look like they could still go for hours, after all it is "The Most Wonderful Time of The Year"!
Imagine in the midst of your shopping experience you receive a gift that you will never ever forget. One considered just a random act of kindness or as the planners called it "A Random Act of Culture".
The shoppers at Macy's in Philly received the gift. A planned flash mob planted themselves in the shopping mall where an organ had been brought in to play Christmas music for the Holiday shoppers. Scattered throughout the store and floors, this flash mob wasn't just any flash mob, they were choir members with beautiful voices and as the music began for the Hallelujah Chorus, spontaneous and wondrous voices sprang forth to give a gift that I know the shoppers will never forget.
It paused everyone to stand in wonder as the music and voices filled around them. Camera phones came out as people sought to capture the moment for others, smiles erupted, tears filled eyes, people joined in with the singing. You see, the singers, or flash mob, knew about the event but the shoppers didn't. It had to be a wonderful surprise for all who were busy about their shopping to hear the angelic voices remind them of the "Reason for the Season".
The video has over 6 million hits on YouTube. The people behind this Random Act of Culture have others planned all across the nation. After you see the video you may just decide that another trip to the mall might just be worth it on the slight chance to be there should it happen in your area. If it does, lucky you. If it doesn't, well, turn on your collection of Christmas music and stand and sing your heart out -enjoy the spirit of your own music. Hmmm, again music comes through as universal, heart warming and it doesn't require translation, reaches all ages, and will fill hearts whether you were there or you watch it.
It reminds me why I love music so much and why CAISO exists - we love what we do and we love sharing our music with you. Please, feel free to share this blog post with others and do your effort toward the "Random Act of Culture (Kindness!)"
