The Winter Olympic Games have officially started in and many people are highly anticipating them for a variety of different reasons. This is the first time that Sochi, Russia has hosted the Winter Olympic Games. They are being organized by the Sochi Organizing Committee. This year, the games will include sporting events such as alpine skiing, biathlon, bob-sleighing, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, luge, Nordic combined, short track, skeleton, ski jumping, snowboarding, and speed skating. The excitement over this year's Olympic games is largely based upon the fact that there are two new venues this year including the Olympic Park as well as Krasnaya Polyana, and this year the games budget has reached 51 million dollars and is the most expensive Olympic games to date. The mascots this year include the polar bear, the European hare, and the amur leopard.
